Having been schooled by the likes of Oscar Brown Jr., Donny Hathaway and later on Curtis Mayfield, he honed his writing and singing skills and began his career, first in a band called Lyfe (which also included Chaka Khan).

Calvin "Koco" Branson
Pianist and vocalist, has been the musical director for "Ain't Misbehavin'", Oscar Brown Junior's "The Great Nitty Gritty" and "Journey through Forever". He won a Jeff award for the musical score of "In De Beginnin'". As cultural ambassador for the city of Chicago, he performed in Japan and many European festivals such as Moers in Germany, Nichelsdorff in Austria and Rome in Italy.
